When the first European explorers arrived in Tonga they called this archipelago comprising 176 islands of which only about 40 are inhabited, the "friendly islands", 176 islands. There are 4 main groups of isles that preserve their own essence: Tongatapu and 'Eua in the south, Ha'apai in the center, and Vava'u in the north.

It was the first country in the region to create marine reserves, so you can enjoy fabulous snorkeling and diving. But if anything, Tonga is renowned for its magnificent humpback whales. You would have a chance to watch and swim with humpback whales that come each year, from June to November, to give birth in the Tongan warm waters.
